The Lone Sailor© is a composite of the U.S. Navy bluejacket,
past, present and future. He's called the Lone Sailor, yet he is hardly ever alone, standing on the broad granite plaza of the Navy Memorial, in Washington, DC. The bronze statue is the creation of Stanley Bleifeld, the United States Navy Memorial's official sculptor.
The Lone Sailor statue was dedicated along with the United States Navy Memorial on October 13, 1987. Ten years after the dedication of the original Lone Sailor statue, the idea of "reaching out" to other communities with the beautiful bronze statues occurred. Currently 12 Lone Sailor statues have been placed throughout the country.
Now you too can have a Lone Sailor Statue for your home or office, and other great gifts featuring the Lone Sailor, from pins and t-shirts to mugs and more. |
